Genuine antique, fully functioning rolltop desk and its matching rolling chair! Owned and used by Major-General George E. Pickett (from the confederate side) during the Civil War.Desk was semi-restored and the chair was broken & fixed, but still needs a little love, as seen in the pictures.
The set was willed to our family by a close neighbor at the time, Miss Lillian Pickett of Oskaloosa, Iowa, who was a descendent of Major-General Pickett (I believe she was a grand niece). She was an eccentric old woman, and my mother and I would often bring her dinner and visit with her. She was quite the hoarder (before there was a term for it) but she loved this desk and chair that she kept hidden in the attic as they were her most prized possessions. We were honored she left them to us, and this gorgeous antique furniture pair could be a meaningful, valuable (and practical) heirloom in your family as well.
There are sadly no papers as they were purposely destroyed by a sibling in a recent legal matter. But I\'ll be honest, clear, and direct with any questions you have. It\'s my inherent Iowa-Midwestern nature to be so.It\'s truly a stunning desk in person, much more so than the pictures show!
