Presenting a rare, high quality, Model 1852 United States Naval Officer\'s sword and leather scabbard from the Civil War era.
The finely engraved rare 1 1/8\" wide German blade made for Ames by the famous German sword maker Weyersberg of Solingen, has marking of Kings Crown Head next to Hilt.
The top edge of the blade is over 1/4\" thick marked Iron Proof and an etched design runs along the top edge.
The engravings are crisp and beautiful. Engravings include \"United State Navy\",American Eagle facing left with Liberty Banner above, Naval anchor, ornate leaves. The blade is 28 3/4\" long.
The sword is a true show piece worthy of display in a condition rarely found. All parts are tight and solid.
The Hilt: Finely detailed and ornate, approx. 5 3/4\" long ending in an engraved pommel with end cap of eagle surrounded by13 stars. The grip is wrapped in shark skin in excellent condition.
The Scabbard: 31.5\" long by 1 5/8\" at the opening. Stamped Ames Mfg. Co. Chicopee, Mass.In exceptionally fine condition, no dents in mounts, and has only a minor surface crack in leather on one side, otherwise in impeccable condition. (see photo)
The pieces have been wrapped up and stored in closet for many years and rarely touched.
