Coffee-Tech Solar Coffee Roaster & Avirnaki Smoke Trapping System:
$13000.00

Up for sale is a Coffee-TechSolar 2 kilo Electric Coffee Roaster and Smoke Trapping System.

They were purchased in June 2011 directly fromCoffee-Tech Engineering in Israel. Bothequipment are in great physical and mechanical condition. I have roasted about 1,000 lbs. in it.

We have been pleased with this machine since the firstday we operate it. We find the optimum roast amount is between 1.4 to 1.7kg. It will do about 2 batches anhour. The roast is pretty consistent (we only dolight roast, up to the end of first crack). As we grow, we don’t need thismachine anymore, and hope it can land in good hand. It has been rarely use since 2013, maybe lessthan 10 batches a year.

The setup is pretty much plug-and-play, as long as youhave a 240 outlet. No external ducting necessary, even for indoor use. The Avirnaki works pretty great ineliminating the smoke.

Includedin this roasting system:

1. Coffee-TechSolar Automatic Shop Roaster, 2 kg. capacity

2. AvirnakiSmoke Trapping System

3. Twobrand new heat elements for back up.

Coffee-TechAvirnaki Smoke Trapping System descprition:

Avirnaki is an environment-friendly smoketrapping system; absorbing smoke into cleanable, detachable, full flow typetrapping fields. Avirnaki is an electrical device which excels in its lowenergy consumption and simple maintenance. The system’s maintenance is easy andis done by using tap water and green cleaning solvents.

Avirnaki is suitable for roasting insideretail stores, supermarkets, shopping malls and other venues where fresh coffeeis desired. The system may fit on to any shop roaster, while it works best withCoffee Tech Engineering’s advanced shop and lab roasters.

Materials: 100% metal structure

Electrical: 220-240 Volts, 50/60Hz, 500 Watt Single Phase

Dimension(cm):42(w) x 72(d) x 91(h) / (inch): 15.7(w) x 28.3(d) x 38.1(h)

Cleaning and maintenance:

Cleaning the roaster is simple. After 3 batches, just unscrew the chaff collector, trash the chaff. Once a week or a month, depending on use, unscrew the vent pipes, and clean with wire brush. The 4” aluminum flex pipe can be easilyreplaced, and Home Depot/Loews sells them.

As for the Avirnaki, the trapping filter canbe washed using degreaser or GreenClean.

Shippingwill be via Freight or Ground, and will be determined based on the buyer’slocation.

Question #1:
Can you tell me how much manual control I would have on the roasting process please? For example, would it be possible for me to shorten the roasting time by increasing the power coming from electrical elements? Also, does this unit monitor and display the bean mass and environmental temperatures. Would I have manual control over the speed and suction of cyclone? Would it be possible for me to consult the owner\'s manual online please?

Answer #1:
You CAN\'T control the heat from the electrical elements power, drum rotation speed and cyclone blower speed. The blower is automatic.
The monitor displays only the environmental temperature in the roasting chamber.
You can add another probe on the front door (where you drop the beans into the cooling tray), there is a bolt and screw you can take out to insert the probe.
Please note that the machine shows the temperature in Celsius.
The way this machine works as follow:
1. Turn on the power
2. Set the charge temperature. The optimum is 150 to 155 C, or 300 to 310 F.
3. Once the machine is preheated to the desired temperature, the alarm will beep, and you can charge the beans.
4. The time display will start, and you can see the progress through the glass window on the front door.
5. Usually at this time, I would set the temperature for the heat elements to be off, between 175-180C or 350 to 355F.
6. After about 12-14 mins. and it reaches the drop temperature depending the bean weight, the heat element will turn off.
7. The machine will continue to roast for another 3 minutes until the cooling blower starts. The temperature will rise to 200-210C.
8. During this 3 mins period, if you want to drop the beans, you can, otherwise you can cool the coffee in drum for about 4-5 mins to reduce smoke.
Optimum weight is 1.5 to 1.7 kg.
This machine works best if you have a cafe and wants to roast at the same time. You can just leave the machine to do the roasting, without being there at all time. Once you charge the beans, it will roast and cool in about 20 mins. You can do something else during that 20 mins.

Question #2:

Please provide a roasting scenario for 1.5 kg.

Answer #2:

Roastingscenario for 1.5 kg Ethiopia Yirgacheffe:

Chargeat 155 C

Turningpoint at 100 C between 1:35’ to 2:30’

Firstcrack at 168 C at 12:37’

Heatoff at 168 C at 12:37’

Drop(Cooling blower activated): 177C at 15:37’

Coolingin drum takes about 4 minutes, so, the roasting is done at 19:37’

Note:

-Ifyou want to take to 2nd crack, which we did it once, you can turnoff the heat at about 180 C at around 15:30’ and Drop (cooling bloweractivated) at about 205C at 18:30’.

-Maxtemperature that you can set on the lower limit temperature control: 0C

-Maxtemperature that you can set on the upper limit temperature control is 220 C

-Youcan cool the bean in the external cooling tray if you don’t want to do itinside the drum.

-Thereis no tryer where you smell a sample of the beans during roasting.

Question #3:

Is there a way to change the roasting time?

Answer #3:

The roasting time can be changed by adjusting the weight. For ex. if you do 1 to 1.2 kg, you can get first crack in 9 to 10 mins, and 2nd crack in 12-13 mins, like you want below. This is an electric roaster that is designed more for a coffee shop with limited staff, to increase efficiency. If you are looking for a roaster for you to tinker around, there are better ones out there. However, the roast quality is comparable to our Diedrich IR-12.

There is a hole next to the door handle (currently there is a factory installed bold/screw), where you can insert a permanent thermocouple, otherwise, you can drill a hole on the back of drum enclosure to insert the probe.
