Conn 30h Burkle Trombone. Price reduced:
$550.00

Conn 30h Burkle trombone made about 1940 in Elkhart, Indiana. This is a much sought-after vintage model. Serial number 334xxx. Dual bore, size .494 and .507 (from literature). 7\" bell. Lacquer finish is about 90% with numerous scratches and a big scuff mark on the bell which may have been the situs of a now repaired dent. The horn appears to have been relacquered at some time. No major dents at at present. Instruments of this age will inevitably have dings. Slide is straight and slides well. Inner slide tubes were replated in 2014 and it now plays very quickly and easily as though it were new. Case is a new Gator hard plastic molded generic case. (Original case is not available.) There is a Conn 3 mouthpiece which may be original, in good condition with silver plating intact. Water key is functional. Has had a chemical flush, also in 2014. No musty smells in either horn or case.

The 30h was the smaller of two so-called Burkle models, named after Conn\'s long time trombone designer. They were designed for dance band, theatre, or orchestra playing. The emphasis was to allow playing very loud and very high. Both models (the other is the 32h) had lightweight \"narrow\" slides, and were to have greater power and great ease of response, especially in the high range. The \"narrow\" slide makes the slide a bit longer and was to help bring the 7th position into tune. Among horns of that era, the power was good. Today\'s bigger bore horns with larger bells are pretty much all more powerful, but this horn still has some punch. The overall tone is strong, clear and quite bright. The high range is so good I would describe it as fantastic.

I am a bass trombone specialist and I can still get the second Db above the staff. Lead players should get a reliable Eb of F or higher. Best horn I ever played for high range, high range slotting, and a clear, cutting tone.

Oddly enough, I never really liked Conn horns. Until I played this one. This horn has to be played to be believed.
