Well, you\'re not going to believe these. I\'ve been collecting antique casket and coffin advertising for decades and this is the ONLY set of Crane and Breed advertising casket plaques that I\'ve EVER seen. I\'ve never even encountered another single sign. These curved plastic signs were meant to perch atop the top panel of selected Crane and Breed Caskets to provide point of sale consumer information. The 5 signs are labeled Bronze, Copper, Stainless Steel, 16ga Solid Zinc, and Zinc Coated Steel. So, you have the whole Crane & Breed family represented. Crane and Breed heavily promoted zinc in casket construction as you likely know.
Crane & Breed is acknowledged as one of America\'s very earliest organized casket companies. They were located in Cincinnati, Ohio and got their start about 1853 making cast iron \"mummiform\" coffins using the Almond Fisk patent. They grew to become one of the largest casket companies in the United States even making hearses, etc. They went out of business in the late 1960\'s. I would guess that this set of casket signs dates to the late 1950\'s.
The signs are 7\" across by 4 1/4\" high. They are all in very nice condition. I doubt that they were ever used much. Yes, there is a little light scatteredwear but nothing to speak of.
A set this rare from one of America\'s great early casket manufacturers deserves to be housed in a Funeral Service related museum. I believe that they are that rare. I guarantee that the lucky buyer will be THRILLED to add these to their collection. Please add $7.75 shipping.
