$1,470LE #31 OF 60The extraordinary dolls of HeloiseJoelle Lemassonare onpermanent displays in a number of Swiss and French museums,including the Musée des Arts Décoratif at the Louvre.The Nantes artist made her first original doll in 1976.It was fashioned of fabric , as were her other early works.But she discovered cast resin in 1982 and has worked with it ever since,as she feels it best captures the translucent complexion of a child.Héloïse’s dolls have an ethereal beauty that evokes forgotten memories of childhood and,according to the artist,\"can be defined as both modern and romantic;childlike, but not childish.\"All Heloile dolls have beautifully painted eyes with a glass glaze appliedwhich make the dollslook real. They have human or mohair wigs. The finest fabrics, including silk mousseline, floweredbatiste, silk taffeta, silk velvetsand vintage chantilly laces are used in dressing her dolls. The dolls\'heads and limbs are made of resin and most have cloth bodies. All dolls are numbered froma limited edition of either 60 or 100.After 20 years of doll making, Heloise has said: \"I believe a doll is asculpture and the model is hidden inside the clay; I have to bringinto the world this little creature whose reason for beingis to reflect my emotion, this emotion holds no name;only the angels know its secret.\"
