Here\'s another super nice example of a .58 caliber US Three Ringer lodged in a piece of wood found near the site of the old Verdon House in the Confederate lines on the North Anna River in Hanover County Virginia. The area where this bullet was found was low and swampy ground, but one summer we had an extremely dry stretch and were able to relic hunt where we normally could not go. I would say 75 to 80 percent of the bullets we found in this area were lodged in wood. For some reason the water and lead situation along with the wood seemed to havepreserved these very well as I found many of them during this period.
If you don\'t have a nice one of these, you\'ll have a hard time finding one any better than this one. The piece of wood measures approximately 2 inches long by 1 and 1/4 inch thick and the wood appears to me to be pine. It comes in a Riker case for display.
