This is a very early piece from the turn of the century, \"teens\". The entire piece is made from a hand made wool blended material \"possibly goat\" and has been trimmed out with a cream colored trimming throughout. The totemic design on the backside is of exceptional quality and has been hand-stitched not machined. The coat is in exceptional shape, only a couple areas where the blended material is wearing thin. There are a couple button-style hooks or metal clasps that are near the neck of the coat that I don\'t believe are original to the piece. This would have been worn to clan meetings or important events \"Potlatch\", which required the particular clan to be represented. I don\'t know exactly which Tlingit moiety that this represents, as it appears to be a combination of possibly \"Frog\" and some others. That is why I listed it as \"Totemic\". This piece is guaranteed to be early and would look fantastic framed on the wall and deserves to be the center piece of any Northwest Coast collection.
