This old attractive hand made unique/one of a kind wood model is that of a professional ice cutter which was used on winter lakes and rivers. It is known to have been made by a man in Door County, WI, though his name has been lost. Judging by the materials and appearance of age, I believe this is just pre WWII or post. This model is proportionally correct, aligned with the dimensions of a life sized ice cutter, one which could be operated by one or two men.This one functions, that is the blade can be lifted and lowered, the ice tongs on the long rope can be swung and lifted. The blade is made of metal, as are some other smaller parts. There are springs and spools, specially cut metal parts, and elements which can be moved as with a life sized cutter. The original cutter seems likely to have been operated by one man who controled the blade by lowering and lifting, though there would have had to be some mechanical means to spin the round blade for slicing the ice. When the piece were cut the tongs would be lowered to pick up the blocks and swung to the sides. This model measures about 19 1/2\" x 5 1/2\" x 13 1/2\".
