Extra Large Cow Horn Black Powder Scrimshaw Storage Reenactor Rumlet HUGE:
$50.00

I used to be a French and Indian War reenactor and know a bit about horns, but it\'s been many years, so please let me know if I can clarify any of the info on this horn. Thank you for your consideration. This is a huge and beautiful horn. There is some bug damage, one large shallow indentation and a small hole that goes all the way through. A skilled horn maker could work around these no problem with pewter inlays or leather wrap, the large indentation might even disappear if the horn is scraped thin enough. (pics with quarter for scale)Horn would make an amazing storage horn or the base end could be removed to make a rumlet and you\'d still have plenty of horn left for a powder horn. Base is oval in shape and just under 14 inches around. Somebody began making this into a powder horn and cut small points and drilled holes for a plug. A couple of the points are missing. Very lightly in pencil somebody wrote 17x29 near the base and I believe these are the inner and outer curve measurements as this is very close to what I measured them at. (see pics with cloth tape measure)Color tan with reddish brown tip. Very translucent (see pic) when held to light. I suspect some of the coloring is from age and the horn would when scraped may be lighter in color. I believe this is a horn you would wear on the left side, as the tip points more upward when put on that side. Money is included in pictures for scale, not included in sale. Please let me know if you have any questions.
