FRENCH Military combat knife -Machete OLD & Original

My limited research dates this to World War II or before.
This is a large knife machete --measures 20 inches long and it is HEAVY DUTY--total weight is about 2 1/2 lbs! The blade is right at 14 inches long and the handle is 6 inches long
Both the knife and leather sheath are marked FRANCE as shown. No other markings I can find anywhere.
The condition is as shown--used and stained some but remains in pretty good condition for the age and what it was used for. The original leather sheath has a brass snap and a small brass liner. The leather is not very plyable and the snap has not be snapped closed for a long time--I tried but couldn't get it to close around when the knife was inserted in the sheath --I think a little leather treatment would do the trick but I want to leave this just EXACTLY how it was found and let the collector do as they choose.
