Fine antiquefrench master violin made and signed by Augustin Claudot circa 1820.
Rare and beautiful antique french 19th century violin made circa 1820 by Augustin Claudot (1776 - 1843) in Mirecourt. The Augustin Claudot violins are always finely made, having something of Didier Nicolas Ainé in the f holes perhaps, but with a more slender pattern, elegant long corners and beautiful heads. They are more achieved than the ones produced by his brother Charles, who owned the brand \"Marquis de l\'Air d\'Oiseaux\". This one is splendid, with its top made of one piece of spruce of thin grain lines at the right widening at the left. The back is made of one piece of flamed maple, the regular fine curl descending from the left to the right. The ribs and head are of the same wood. The head has been nicely grafted on a new neck. The varnish, of a delicate golden-brown colour, is very luminous and transparent.
The violin is in a very good condition, with some worm works repairs at some places (mainly at the upper right of the top), and the neck button have been changed along with the neck, giving the instrument its modern elevation. The restoration work has been extremely well conducted by a talented restorer, and give the violin a nice look.
The instrument has been set with a Despiau bridge, a rosewood tailpiece with ebony fret, the matching chinrest and Thomastik Dominant strings. The rosewood pegs are older and fit perfectly.
On the inside back can be found the fire brand of Augustin Claudot. The violin is guaranteed original.
The instrument comes with a new rectangular case. Insured shipping to US $90 and to EU $50.
The violin will come with a certificate, including a $8,000 valuation.
