Good condition and guaranteed original French Mle 1866Chassepot bayonet that has St. Etienne Arsenal markings on the blade spine anddated April 1868. Blade has original bright finish with some gray. Guard hasgray and brown patina. Brass grip has nice looking patina. Lock button and leafspring function fine. Bayonet was captured and reissued by the Germans duringthe Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71. Fitted in correct original steel scabbardthat was German modified with an added frog stud that has German Fraktur letterproofs. Scabbard has German Landwehr unit marking. The German black paint onthe scabbard has worn away to brown patina. A scarce German used Chassepotbayonet for your collection.
