Circular silver medal with suspension loop andbar; the face with a female head wearing a fireman’s helmet facing left,representative of the French Republic, circumscribed ‘REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE’,signed ‘L. BAZOR’ and dated ‘1935’; the reverse with a house in flames coveredby a fireman’s helmet, symbolising the mastery of fire, inscribed above‘MINISTERE DE L’ INTERIEUR’ (Ministry of the Interior) and ‘HOMMAGE AUDEVOUEMENT’ (Homage to devotion) across the middle, flames below, with ParisMint silver assay marks at the base; on original ribbon and pin. Themedal was instituted on 16 February 1900 to recognise long service and goodconduct but may also be awarded for exceptional service or acts of courage. Toreceive the silver medal, 20 years’ service is required but exceptional awardsare made where the nature of service or an act of bravery merits. This goodexample is of the third version, introduced in 1935.
