The Rio Grande Southern wound its waythrough the San Juan mountains of Southwestern Colorado from the 1880\'s untilthe last rail was pulled up in 1952. This caboose was built for the RGS in1890, by the DRGW and was in service until the end of operations. The \"Sunset\" herald on the model dates it to the later years of its service.It wasultimately destroyed by vandals in 1958, its remaining intact componentsdistributed to revive other pieces of Colorado narrow gauge.
The model has been displayed but nevercoupled to an operating train. There is nowheel wear or other indication of anyprevious use. The acetate material used for windowshas loosened (despite the rock-solid construction of the rest of the model,this is a common flaw of these modelsas the glue used by the factorydries out). I have NOT attempted to re-attach the loose window material, butthey can be replaced by unscrewing the under-frame of the model to access the interior.The model has track-powered lighted marker lamps.
The model is supplied in its original box. There is a spot on the box that is \"wrinkled\". It may have been exposed to moisture or heat, but no intrusion into the carton\'s interior.
