Real nice Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Co. 'fig leaf' style house gong. Most recentpatent date of June 7, 1881. Cherry wood. Not oak. Does not have a Gamewell tag on the front.
Very nice Gamewell signed mechanism, wood case is stamped B.A.F.A. Co. See photos.
At one time had a B.A.F.A. Co. tag on the front, or so it looks to me. I purchased it as is and have enjoyed it for many years. Downsizing my collection a little.
BAFA was the Boston Automatic Fire Alarm Company. Either a BAFA or a Gamewell tag would look fine and be correct on this. Solid piece. Very nicely made. Great example of an early fire alarm telegraph mechanism in a wood case. Bell is solid with a nice ring to it. Original glass and glazing compound. Wires and coils are in nice shape. Does not have a winding key or a door lock key. Takes standard Gamewell keys, the door lock is of the hollow end or drilled end type, and the winder takes what I would cal a 'medium' sized batwing, approx 3/16".
8" bell. Overall 22" high and 12" wide. Approx 15+ pounds. Will ship at 16 lbs +.
This will ship UPS. I will package it well. Typically I ship a wood house gong as wrapped in bubble wrap, and then in a box filled with shipping peanuts, inside of another box filled with peanuts. Expect a fairly large box to be delivered, at least in the 2' x 2 1/2' range. A signature will be required. All sales are final. Payment by PayPal.
If you have any questions, please askbefore offerding. Good luck.
