GENERAL ELECTRIC TABLETOP RADIO

MODEL 220

6 TUBE, AM &SW, AC/DC

RESTORED & WORKINGCa. 1946
THIS is a vintage General Electric tabletop radio, the Model 220, circa 1946. This radio was designed to work on either AC or DC, and receives both AM and shortwave (6 - 10 MHz). It is receiving better on AM than on SW, though that might improve with an outside antenna. I suppose the style is vaguely Art Deco, with its slide rule dial, horozontal louvers, and vertical fluting. The cabinet is brown swirled Bakelite. The two-piece knobs (the inner part is for tone and band selection) are original, as is the power cord and Bakelite plug. It has its original backing, which looks good from the outside. However, hidden from view (see photos), there is electrical tape and a lot of old, rather sloppy soldering which connects the antenna with the chassis. I did not try to remove any of this because sometimes old tape can stick too well, and might damage the small wires of the loop antenna if removed. Although it looks good, remember that it is nearly 70 years old, so expect minor scratches and blemishes. The swirled Bakelite knobs are original. It measures approximately 13 X 8 X 8 inches. A little unusual in this radio is the use of a partially slanted chassis, where the tube sockets are located (see photos). The cabinet has NO chips, cracks, or breaks.
All the old paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, and other components as necessary. It is working at present. HOWEVER, because electronic components nearly 70 years old can fail, it is sold in technically AS-IS condition. (I\'m 62 and some of my components have failed.) The switches are a little loose internally, and even though I cleaned them, you may have to "jiggle" them a bit. Even then, however, you will have a 14 day inspection period in which the radio can be returned for any reason as long as it is undamaged, but only for a refund of the purchase price, not to include shipping. There is packing material inside the cabinet, which MUST be removed before powering it up.
Insurance is included in shipping. Any damage caused in shipping must be pursued through an insurance claim, as for a refund, the item must be in the same condition in which I shipped it. After that, if notice of damage is given within the 14 day period, I will still make a refund of the purchase price (only) if desired.

MY PLEDGE TO YOU: no surprises! I will provide high-resolution scans; I will fully describe each item, obverse and reverse, positives and negatives, possibilities, likelihoods, what I suspect, and which is which; and I will provide as much historical context as I can. Now, I believe that the only people who never make mistakes are those who never say or do anything, so consequently, there will be times I am wrong. There, you are covered by my guarantee.

MY GUARANTEE TO YOU: I guarantee each item to be genuine as described. After you receive your purchase, you will have a fourteen (14) day inspection period; and if you are dissatisfied, simply return the item (in its original condition) for an immediate refund of your purchase price. Furthermore, if in the inspection period, you decide to send the item for expertizing, I will extend the period until its return from the expert of your choice. If it returns with an opinion of not genuine, or of being significantly different from how I describe it, I will also reimburse you for the expertizing fee. And the ONLY exception to my guarantee is that I am not responsible for mishandling by the mail system, and any damages incurred therein. That is what postal insurance is for, and is automatic on this radio.
