For your consideration is a cast iron fluter. Fluters were always twoseparate pieces: The base was heated while the other piece was on it. Fluters were heated and used the same principle as a clothing iron, but to make the fancy cuffs & collars on Victorian Era dresses. This fluter was made in Geneva, Illinois. The writing on the bottom of the base says: PAT\'D AUG\' 21.1866. HEAT THIS. (I find it interesting, how punctuation marks had a different usage 100-150 years ago, compared to how I was taught in school in the 1960s and \'70s.) The cast iron base is 6\" long and slightly more than 3 7/8\" wide. This fluter shows signs of age and use. I used a wire brush to highlight the writing on the top piece; other than that, it is in as found condition and needs to be properly cleaned.
