GORDON-VAN TINE HOMES - 1917 HOME CATALOG - DAVENPORT, IOWA - IA
Fantastic 146 page catalogue measuring about 8 3/4 inches by 11 3/4 inches. Only problem, as you can see in images below, is the cover has chip/rips and is almost detached from the book block. But this is unique and all encompassing of the home kits available both Ready Cut and Not-Ready Cut. Floor plan, exterior pictures - both in color and black and white.
The Gordon-Van Tine Company was established in 1907 as a subsidiary of U.N. Roberts Company, a millwork manufacturer in Davenport, Iowa. Itexpanded its operation from millwork to the entire range of building supplies. Gordon-Van Tine supplied larger companies, including Sears Roebuck & Co., with the building materials sold in its catalog. The manufactured housing business grew by leaps and bounds from 1910 to 1920. To remain competitive in the market, Gordon-Van Tine refined its catalogs and shifted its considerable experience and resources into pre-cut housing in order to compete head-to-head with companies like Aladdin. In 1916, it produced its first entry into the pre-cut housing market with itsReady Cut Homescatalog.Gordon Van Tine continued in business until after World War II when it\'s owners sold the company. It ceased operations in 1947. Extracted from the Arts & Crafts Society website. Thus, this is the second Gordon-Van Tine Home pre-cut catalog.
