For sale is a very rare Cylinder seal from Mesopotamia, this item belonged to the personal collection of Near easter artifacts of my Grandfather which I inherited some of them. This Item is estimated to be from the period around 1600-1000 BC and is made from Lapis Lazuli stone, when this seal is rolled into clay will press an oustandingancient story impression.Mesopotamian Cylinder Seal: is a cylinder engraved with a 'picture story', used in ancient times to roll an impression onto a two-dimensional surface, generally wet clay. Cylinder seals were invented around 3500 BC in the Near East, at the contemporary site of Susa in south-western Iran and at the early site of Uruk in southern Mesopotamia. They are linked to the invention of the latter cuneiform writing on clay cylinders.
