These are steel discs that are about 1mm thick and can be used for grinding, cabbing and faceting. Mount these horizontally or vertically like a polishing head. The vertical mount can be achived by using a 8\" metal or plastic master disc that has a 1/2 inch center hole. That then can mounted on the end shaft of a arbor by first installing a stop collar with a set screw at a distance that then allows you to slde on the master disc then the diamond disc.leaving just enough threads to install the shaft nut making sure to tighten it enough to keep the master and diamond discs from moving. If you have a shaft that is not threaded on the end you can use a second stop collar and two large rubber washers. The rubber washers will help keep the discs from moving. Just press the two collars together sandwiching the discs and rubber washers together making sure the set screw is tight. As far as the horizontal mouting it is concerned it is the normal flat lap disk position and should not have to be explained. Using these discs on the shaft end will eliminate the need for the polishing head and the expensive paper diamond pads. Some people have been using these metal discs without a master backing plate. DO NOT DO THIS. THE PLATE IS NOT MADE TO WITHSTAND EVEN THE SMALLEST AMOUNT OF FLEX.
Coolant..It is best to use oil if you can it will greatly increase the life of the disc. If you do use water make sure you put a rust retarding additive
