Philippines Short Bolo Knife, possibly a souvenir brought back by a soldier who was stationed at Madison Barracks, NY when their unit served in the Philippine Insurrection. 8 1/4\" carbon steel blade with Buffalo handle and brass ferule and finger guard, 12\" long overall. Original leather sheath has a split along the blade side of it and the tip broken off and loose. The obverse side of the blade has the engraving \"Philippines 1905\" and the image of a farmer working in a field, the blade edge has a few nicks but is otherwise very solid as is the buffalo horn handle. I believe it was units of the 13th Infantry regiment that were sent to the Philippines to quash the Moro uprising and this was purchased almost 30 years ago from an estate of a family who had a relative who served with the 13th Infantry Regiment and they claim he brought it back with him. There is a large brass plaque on the stone water tower at Madison Barracks NY listing the soldiers lost during the Philippine Insurrection.
