Thisis an American made mechanical clock built by the Herschede clock company,which ceased production in roughly 1984. This clock was built in approximatelymid-1970s and acquired by my father. It was not run for approximately the lasttwelve years, but I wound it up recently and ran it for a week, and it runsfine. It is supposed to be oiled every 3 years and cleaned every 9 years by aqualified clock repairer/maintenance company, and is overdue for that. It is infine shape, and chimes as it should. Other than a slight tarnish of the silvertubes, there are no defects that I am aware of. This Marquis de Lafayette,model no. 117, is in a dark oak cabinet. It is paneled in glass on three sideswith separated panels as well. Exceptional hand carvings ornament the cabinet.It has a 9 tube, triple chime movement, a moving moon, and a gold plated, handengraved dial. It has a quiet pleasing tick tock and lovely chime sound. I havekept it inside in an air conditioned environment since obtaining it from myfather’s estate 12 years ago, and it is in excellent condition. You will notfind many precision mechanical clocks like this out there. Dimensions are 861/4 in. height, 24 1/4 in. width, and 16 in. depth.
