Holmegaard Green Optic Panel Hyacinth Bulb Forcing Starter Vase

Forcing bulbs is an age old technique popularized in the Victorian era. Most flowering bulbs can be forced on water. Bulbs such as hyacinth, tulip, narcissus or even crocus can be used in a variety of forcing vases.

This particular vase is sized for forcing larger bulbs such as hyacinth or narcissus.

This is green glass with an optic panel that can be felt on the inside. Although there is no tag, this appears to be a classic Holmegaard vase. Please examine photos carefully for details and as part of description.

The vase stands about 5\" tall with a top diameter of about 3½\" and base diameter of about 3\". This lightweight glass vase weighs about 7 oz. Please note that measurements are approximations.

It is in very nice, pre-owned condition. Please examine photos carefully for details.

For a hint of spring any time of year, coax bulbs into flowering indoors.

With the exception of amaryllis, unless you have bought flower bulbs that have been specifically prepared for forcing, you will need to prepare them.

Place them in a dark, cold area ... 40*-45* F ... for 8-12 weeks. This is called prechilling. Once your bulbs have been prechilled, you can start forcing them on water.

To force your bulbs on water, set a bulb just above ... but not touching ... the water in the forcing vase. Put it in a dark, cold area to root for 8-16 weeks. The temperature during this rooting period is critical: 40° to 48° F is ideal. Avoid freezing temperatures.

If the water gets murky, change it.

When roots fill the glass and there’s 1-2\" of top-growth, bring it into subdued light and warmer but still cool temperatures ... about 60° F.

After 7-10 days, move it into bright light, but keep it as cool as you can and avoid direct

sunlight. Turn it every day to keep it growing upright.
