Hudson Dealer Promotional Model Car 1948 Hudson Step-Down Model Introduction:
This is a Hudson Dealer Promotional Model Car that was used by Hudson Dealer's back in the day to introduce their new 1948 Hudson Step-Down Model. From what I understand, this approximately 1/18 Scale Model Car was not for sale to the general public, but was used at the Hudson Dealer's to show off the new Step-Down Design. I recently obtained this model car from a gentleman who used to own a Hudson Dealership and he is the one who told me about this model car. It has been incontrolled storage since the mid-1950s and the plastic of the model is not warped. He also told me that the model car was used, displayed and handled extensively at the Hudson Dealerback in the day to show off the new Hudson Step-Down Design. There is one deep scratch in the left front door and two deep scratches in the aft portion of the left front fender. The chrome trim parts have been painted with silver paint. The front end of the model comes off to reveal that there is no engine, transmission, driveshaft, steering column or steering wheel. There is a dashboard in place with defined instruments by looking inside with a flashlight. The body from the cowl back does raise up but it is glued at the back and I do not want to break the glue seal to separate the body from the chassis. There are glue marks on the front fender portion that is removable and on the cowl area and glue marks on the body to chassis connections. The front and rear axles are made of hollow brass tubing and the front wheels are very loose and come off quite easily by snapping off the left front wheel cover. There are no rear wheel covers and the rear wheels are a very loose fit to the rear axle and are retained onto the rear axle with standard full size car cotter pins. The left rear wheel also has a plain metal washer under the cotter pin, the right rear wheel does not have a plain metal washer under the cotter pin. The clear plastic windows are yellowed and the paint on the white wall tires are faded and worn. The model car has the normal scratches, marks and fading from the car being used and handled at the dealership back in the day, however, this is one very nice model car to have for any Hudson Enthusiast. The model car is approximately 12 1/2 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches high.
