Sewing Machine GearsA word about Plastic Sewing machine gears. Years ago most all quality sewing machines were made out of all metal and had all metal drive gears. But as times changed many companies have went to plastic housings and plastic drive gears. The problem with that is, with heavy sewing these plastic gears do crack and once that happens that is a major repair and quite costly. The reason being is the labor is high because much of the machine needs to be dismantled. Below is a picture of a cracked gear removed from a sewing machine. Our machine here has all metal gears!
