Inuit Soapstone Carving - Annie Qimirpik - Signed - 1979 - Kneeling Eskimo Woman:
$229.99

Annie Qimirpik (Kimirkpiq) (b. 33) Signed Soapstone Carving

You are offerding on a soapstone sculpture by noted Inuit artist Annie Qimirpik. The piece depicts a kneeling woman carved in green stone and measures approximately 4\" tall by 3 1/4\" long and 2 3/4\" wide. The piece is a nice tactile size and the carving and polishing are very good.

There are many spelling variations of the name Qimirpik but this piece is signed on the bottom in native Syllabics for Annie and Qimirpik andyou can just make these out in the top right ofa photo. The piece appears to be dated with a copyright \"C\" within a circle and 1979.

Accompanying the piece is a rare, original \"Canada Eskimo Art\" hang tag. It gives the artist\'s place of origin as Lake Harbour, the artist\'s numberas #1848 and the artist\'s name as A. Kimirkpiq.

Annie Qimirpik is highly collected and her works, many now vintage, are featured in galleries and offered for premium prices. I believe her husband and other family members were also artists and she passed on her skills to her son, now a noted artist in his own right,as well as toother family members.

The condition of the piece is very good with no chips or breakage. There are small natural fissures in the rock and there is some original loss to the stone under the woman\'s feet which most likely was there at the time the piece was carved. The Canada Eskimo Art tag is intact, though it does show some soiling and discoloration.

Annie Qimirpiksculpturesdon\'t become available often. Larger examples of her work go for many thousands of dollars in galleries and sale houses. I have priced this piece below similar sale estimates and below gallery prices. I believe having the original tag is also a valuable addition to an already collectible piece.

This item will be insured and it will require a delivery signature.
