Kenwood TH78a (non-working), SMC-33 Speaker mic, DC power cord, BC-14 charger:
$48.00

Up for sale is my non-working, dead, kaput, cease to function, ex-handheld transceiver - TH-78A with all displayed accessories, manual and schematics. Just to be sure that you did not miss the main point: the radio is dead; it does not power up either with a battery (battery is NOT included) or with the DC power cord. Also, the BNC antenna connector is broken off inside the radio (common problem-this one had been repaired several times over the past 20+ years). The issue is NOT with the pwr switch; there is no evidence that the electrolytic caps have leaked and gone bad (another common problem), and there are no fuses in the main circuit that may be bad. The memory battery is also dead. The case is in fair condition - there is some plastic discoloration on the one side of the radio that you can see in the photo, keypad print is also in fair shape for the age of the radio, the battery eject/lock switch is still functional and the display was good the last time that I had the radio powered up (about ten years ago). There are no breaks or other physical damage to the case. The CTCSS board (X52-3170-00) is still inside the radio and while not tested, I see no reason why it shouldn\'t work. This radio has been in my repair pile for some time and I just don\'t want to mess with it anymore. The MARS-CAP mod was done shortly after purchase (yes...it worked fine after that). Instead of trashing this, I thought someone may need a case or other parts. I have a $5 minimum which will pay my fees. Shipping is by medium FR box to CONUS only. The internal circuit boards are not corroded or rusty. I believe the 5V voltage regulator is bad, but that is just a guess since I do NOT have 5V at the power switch. Also included is the SMC-33 speaker mic which was not used extensively and it is in good shape. This is also untested; but, I believe that it should work fine. The BC-14 charger is included and I did test that. I am seeing 13+ volts unloaded at the output. The DC cigarette power cord was bought as an after market item. It is NOT a Kenwood product. It is a direct output device and lacks any RF or DC filtering. The dual band rubber duck is original and it is in fair shape. It is not cracked and the rubber coating is not at the brittle stage yet.The front cover of the instruction manual has a few stains from coffee. The inside pages are perfectly readable and the 2 schematic sheets are in excellent condition.I am not going into detail about the radio since it is DEAD, and if you need parts, you already know about it anyway. Please email any questions or if you need more specifics about it. Absolutely no returns or refunds. Thanks for looking.
