that you can ignore if you wish. If you wish, just read the short version, there is really no need to read all the details of what this radio is capable of doing in the long version.Short version: This is an excellent working tm741a kenwood ham radio DUEL BAND 2 METER and 440mhz transceiver. So it is a police and sheriff scanner in your local city. The Sherrif use 150mhz up to 165mhz. You can get 24 hour
weather on 162.400 mhz also. You can get local city police by scanning your 460mhz to about 470 mhz. The ambulance is also up there as well.
It works great as you can clearly see on the lit and running display. Cosmetically this radio is about a 9 out of 10 there are almost no scratches at all especially, there are no noticeable scratches on the most important display face.. The radio
works great. I used it for a short while to test it out and then stored it. The radio sounds loud and clear on all bands as I have tested all of them talking to the locals. It works great and looks great! It also comes with the FREE TELEPHONE DIAL OUT mic that is in very nice CONDITION as you can see. JUST LOOK AT THE COILS OF THE CORD! THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY TIGHT AND PERFECT JUST LIKE BRAND NEW! THIS MIC ALSO CONTROLS THE ENTIRE RIG! IT HAS SELECTOR BUTTONS ON THE FRONT ABOVE THE DIAL OUT KEY PAD AS WELL AS ON THE TOP AND IN THE BACK TOO! THE MIC IS THE BEST YOU CAN HAVE ON THIS RIG AND IT IS FACTORY ORIGINAL TOO! ITS AN OEM MIC! The radio is also a Police, fire weather and paramedic scanner too!
You can even scan commercial airliner traffic to hear the air plains landing!
Scan and listen to all your local towns activities. I even listen to the drive up window at taco bell with this unit! It can listen to many many public service conversations! Yes you can really make FREE telephone calls with this radio using the telephone DIAL OUT MIC! There is no manual, you can view it on line for free. You can also play 3 arcade video games with this radio as well. One of them is space invaders and one is solitaire, I cant remember the other one but you can see them on the manual on line. I will also guarantee this radio to work good or your money back because I used it myself, so I know it works good. Also if you put item160104980039 into s search, you will see that a radio just like this but with the not so rare 220 band module soldon for well over a full GRAND, more than $1300.00! And of coarse I am asking a whole lot less for this radio because it has a blank slot for you to chose your own 3rd band with the purchase of another band module. I have attached a picture of that sale here for you to see. I have also shown the photo of all the dozens of buyers that put in their offers and their offer prices of over $1000. And that was just a few years ago when your money was actually worth something before inflation came alone and took the value of your dollar away! If you figure inflation that same radio adjusted for inflation is valued at $1,900.00 a moron can do the simple math and see that! Yet people are so broke that they have no money so they have to put food on the table instead and cant pay anything for a good radio any more. Also item 150114004281 was offer up over $1300.00 (picture shown). If you think thats crazy, the last photo will BLOW YOUR MIND! Just wait till you see the last photo! I sell a few twigs sticks and leaves that I burn to keep the house warm for over $3,000.00 each and I can just chop another scrap piece of brush trimming in the yard and i can never get another one of these rare radios ever in my life, so go figure! And that sale was very RESENT! Just a couple months ago! Are all you buyers out there crazy or what? Go figure! These kenwood tribanders were sold in july on andmay not still be available to view as this was a while ago. I am not evenasking no where near what I got for for that radio sale buy it now price either. This radiois nearly identical to that one. The only difference (correct me if mistaken)is the indention in the face, the location of a couple buttons to the far leftof the channel selector and the vertical orientation of the signal strengthmeter. I can assure you all the band modules are identical and fullyinterchangeable with the 742A and this radio, I believe the owners manual isthe same also or very similar. I even think the faces will interchange as well,so if you ask me I think kenwood kept these tri-banders pretty muchidentical. I would say choose your pick, tm-641, tm-642, tm741 and tm-742 areall the same radio. I think the main difference is the 2 band modules that camewith these radios were switched. Some came with 2m and 220mhz or they wouldcome with 2m and 440mhz and you would pick which two bands you wanted to startwith depending on the modeland you could add a third module laterat your choice. I think this is the only difference which really is nodifference at all since all modules are completely 100% interchangeable, thereis no soldering involved they all simply unplug relatively easily.
All the band modules thatfit these radios listed above will be prefixed with \"UT\". You can geta UT-220 or UT-1.2 etc, any UT module you see on are designed by kenwoodto fit any of these radios. They are all the same. This I know for sure and youcan check on line as well as this is public information.
This is a kenwood Tri-BandAmateur radio. HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SERVICES THE FCC ALLOCATESFOR WHICH BANDS? WELL THAT ANSWER IS SIMPLE. WHEN I OBTAINED MY HAM RADIOLICENSE IT IS ONE OF THE QUESTIONS ASKED TO US ON THE \"VE\" (VOLUNTEEREXAMINERS TEST SESSION). HAMS ARE REQUIRED TO KNOW THIS TO PASS THEIR EXAM.

You can program this to scan, police, fire, 24hour weatherstations, air craft and darn near any public service availablecan bescanned and listened to with this rig. Now Ido know that the 741 WILL ALSO TALK ON THE POLICE frequencies because I havepressed the talk button on my other 741(not this one but on others)and thatradio even transmitted over there. I evengot a public service and police frequency book and programmedmy other741radio to transmit on the input of our local police repeater and withthe proper pl seton my other 741rig, my scanner heard the policemachine on the mountain come up when I squeezed the mic. AND IT IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE TO DO THIS! YOU SIMPLY SNIP THE LONG GREEN WIRE LOOPED IN THE FRONT AND THAT IS ALL YOU DO! So even though thisradiomay have the capability to do these fancy thingsPLEASEdon\'tattempt to try (SNIP THE WIRE) thisas it is not legal to talk out of the hambands.......
· So yes this radiodoesdefiantly have thecapability to be used in any policecarif you set it up to do soandwill out performthe most advanced modern daygovernmentpolice radios by about 1000 to one! This radio will blow the best policeradio clear out of the water, there is no comparison. A police radio couldnever dial into a phone line with the touch of a button as the government doesnot put dialing buttons on police radios norcan they connect their radiosinto the internet with programs like IRLP. This is considered by hams to be the one ofthe best radios ever made. You can\'t buy these radios new in AES or HRO, thenew radios now are all duel band and most do not have all the features thatthis radio offers like the cross-banding. This is the radio of choice and putsall the new radios you find in stores to shame because it will do so much morethan they will do! These radios are getting very rare andhardtofind, so you don\'t see them often on and that is because people don\'t wantto sell theirs, theywant to keep them. Most hams prefer to keep thesebecause they are thereally good ones! What I like about this radio isthat you can cross band repeat with it, go in on one band and come out onanother, so it acts like a repeater for a handy talkie radio. Its an awesomeradio to say the least!

I would prefer this unit go to a licensed hambeing a ham myself for about 15 years. I am also a very very very active hamand am current and up to date with all the fancy modern features and changesthat have come to the ham radio community. Although the law does not requirelicensing to purchase these I will not obligate you to have a call sign to buythis rig. Please keep in mind these are not toys and require licenses totransmit on because the owner needs to take the responsibility to use the radiocorrectly. A lot of serious problems in the entire city or community will occurif you do not take the responsibility to use this radio correctly. We have hadhuge coverage repeaters shut down recently in our area due to improper use ofthese radios so it is important to use them correctly. Also some public servicesystems have also seen these same problems. Lots of systems now cover severalstates and go internationally as well so it is very very important to use thisradio correctly. Iam a very active ham radio operator so I do know what I am talking about whenever I give you information about ham radio.
