This authentic, mid century TV Lamp is made by the fabulous mid century TV lamp manufacturer: Miramar Pottery Co. of Los Angeles, California. This famous and fabulous company is out of business now, but it was an active pottery shop in Los Angeles, California that started in 1952 and closed business around the 1970’s.

The combination of gracefulness and attitude in this creation makes this one of the most intriguing lamps I have ever seen. Delicate and devilish.

This cat was created to be a TV Lamp. Behind the cat is a dark green vase that has Miramar stamped on the back. There is an oval, paper sticker on the inside of the vase that says “Inspected Portable Lamp”.

Mid century, people used to put these decorative TV lamps on top of their televisions. When the TV lamps were on, folks believed the indirect light eased eyestrain from the television glare. If you watch old black and white movies, you will see these little gems as a part of the interior landscape. This lamp is between 60 to 80 years old.

TV Lamp collectors classify this lamp as “rare and unusual” – and whoever designed this lamp really understood cat’s personalities. The cat’s face has cold glaze paint on the eyes, mouth and whiskers. The cat’s little feet also have some paint features on it.

I purchased this lamp about twenty years ago with the electric cord removed and a small chip on the cat’s left cheek, between the cat’s left eye and mouth (pictured). The ceramic color is grey and the underlying ceramic are similar in color, which makes the chip difficult to see, so I had to take the pictures in different light settings so you can clearly see the chip. However, I loved the lamp so much I purchased it back then for $65 to enjoy “as is.”

Besides the chip, the lamp is in excellent condition and it measures 7 inches wide, 12 inches high and 8 inches deep.
