♦Product descriptionThank you for watching my item.Local Government Act of Japan started 60 years ago and JAPAN 47 PREFECTURES COIN PROGRAM has been started in commemoration. There are 47 prefectures in Japan. The silver coin whose face value is 1,000yen and the bi-color clad coin whose face value is 500yen, are to be published one by one as memorial coins.This is 500 yen coin of KUMAMOTO Prefecture. KUMAMOTO prefecture is located in KYUSHU Island JAPAN and faces East China Sea. The design on the obverse side is KUMAMOTO Castle.
KUMAMOTO Castle was built by KIYOMASA KATO at the beginning of Edo era(17th century) and KATO family dominated KUMAMOTO area as a local lord.
HOSOKAWA family took over the local lord position of KUMAMOTO area and then KUMAMOTO castle belonged to HOSOKAWA family until the end of EDO era (1868).
Almost all of the buildings of this castle including Tenshukaku (main building) were burnt down by SEINAN WAR (1877) and rebuilt in 1960. KUMAMOTO castle is called three excellent castles with Nagoya castle and Himeji Castle.
