A really lovely Victorian Harp Zither or Harfenzither as it is labelled. Made by a company called Columbia (not sure if this is the record company) a German American Deutch.Americanische Company. It has 41 strings and some typical victorian decorations with flowers and scrolls and a beautiful logo with 2 flags and a Seaman at the ships wheel. Made circa 1890's. Patent no 117501. The German flag is Black white and red and this helps to date the instrument -
"The flag of Germany has not always used black, red, and yellow as its colours. After theAustro-Prussian Warin 1866, thePrussian-dominatedNorth German Confederationadopted a tricolour of black-white-red as its flag. This flag later became the flag of theGerman Empire, formed following theunification of Germanyin 1871, and was used until 1918."
In original condition a few small chips to the edges and the original rusty old strings. I'm sure you can remove them clean it up and have a lovely old fully working instrument again.
