Selling that lot of Bien Hoa and Tan Son Nhut airbase coins. Those coins were found at a veteran estate sale in Virginia. Also includes, several viet cong medals, an antique zippo lighter, and 2 viet cong war helmets!
Lot has the following :
- Nine (9) $5 coins. 2 are in good shape, the others are rusty.
$5.00 - Highest denomination of Token / Coin (MPC) Issued for use
Note: These large MPC's Token replacement coins are incredibly
difficult to come across. With the introduction of the 5c, 10c and 25c
Tokens, these pieces became obsolete and were generally discarded. Piece
measures 1.2 inches across ( 3.2 cms ).
Magnificently rare pieces - One few available and do
not expect to come across one of these again. Utilised pre 1968 and for
use in Enlisted Men's Open Mess at Bien Hoa Air Base and surrounding
barracks area's (Long Binh etc) and accepted at Tan Son Nhut, Saigon. good overall condition with light staing t a coin has a stain
Token of the 33rd Air Base Squadron, Tan Son Nhut, Saigon.- One 1 $ Coins and Two (2) 50cents coins.
Exceptionally rare, pieces dates to early war era, approx 1966 -
Pre-dates almost all of the US Army Tokens in Vietnam. Saigon's Tan Son
Nhut (Nhat) and Bien Hoa airfields were the first base to utilise tokens
in Vietnam.
Tan Son Nhut is now Ho Chi Minh City International Airport with the
older, Vietnam War era terminal been used as the domestic airport.
$1 - for use in the NCO Club (Non- Commissioned Officers Club).
These coins / tokens were used in lieu of Military Payment
certificates (that only came in note form) in Mess halls, Clubs and
machines. Highly collectable and with ever increasing values the
expectation of value (and in many cases already achieved) in coming
years is that they will surpass the value of tokens from POW Camps of
WWII. Please note. I do not grade banknotes or coins as I am not a coin dealer. Please refer to photo.
