M- 1859 Number 1 or Ring Bit sometimes called a Mexican Bit.Used to control horses that were not easy to control.This one is missing the ring that would be used to encircle the horse\'s lower jaw.The ring was often removed by persons who thought the ring was to cruel to use on horses.This one is marked just above the U.S. boss but I am unable to determine what the marking is.This bit has one arm that is slightly raised and it is rusted with some pitting.Nice bit to display and a rare bit to add to your collection.
