AdditionalMarkings: The ricasso is marked with \"MADE IN / GERMANY\" and the other side is marked with \"M.C. Lilley & Co. Columbus, Ohio\". The blade is marked on the seconda with \"U.S.\" and on the other side with an elaborate eagle carving facing left with markings under each wing: \"E. PLURIBUS UNUM\". The sword is intricately carved (not etched), rococo style with flags, spears, cannon, U.S. Coat of arms & spears.
Description: Up for sale is a U.S. C.S. Civil War Model 1860 staff and officers sword and scabbard. This sword is based on a French pattern of the same era as are most US Models. It has a brass hilt with a black leather grip bound by twisted brass wire wrapped 13 times to honor the 13 original colonies. The tang is peened and the single non-folding outside clamshell-guard and pommel are ornately decorated with an eagle facing left. The scabbard has a brass mouthpiece, a single leather frog hook-up and a ornately decorated scabbard tip protector decorated with flags and a single star.
Condition: This U.S. C.S. Civil War M-1860 sword is in \"Good\" to \"Very Good\" condition. There are no major damages, losses or wornmaterials. The pommel is loose but the grip is intact. Please see our photographsfor further details, and check out our response and other items.
