They have to be mounted too high, so they spread light over too, too wide an area. Our fixture concentrates the power of 1.6 four hundred watt metal halide lights in only about 8 square feet! No Compromise White Light Solution: Light Quality and Quantity!

Indoor Horticultural always used to be about compromises. The last generation of grow lights was high pressure sodium with metal halide conversion bulbs. To get quality white light for starting correctly shaped plants, you had to put up with lower growth rates because of mediocre output of metal halide bulbs. To get blooms, you switch are forced to switch to an orange high pressure sodium spectrum. But this causes stem elongation.Now you don’t have to compromise. You can start plants under a potent white light for vegetative growth with out sacrificing light output. When its time to induce blooming with a warmer spectrum, the bloom T5 bulbs still have significant blue light content to prevents stems from elongating.

This fixture offers:

(A) 16 bulbs included: Growth and Blooming Sets!

This fixture includes 2 sets of 8 bulbs each for you to apply the optimum light spectrum. You get 16 bulbs total. The fixture uses 8 at a time.

You can start your plants under Daylight (6500K) bulbs. These have high blue light content that prevents the stem elongation that makes plants spindly. By activating the pigment crypto chrome , blue light induces prolific, yet compact vegetative growth.

When your plants are ready, induce blooming with the red rich warm white T5 tubes. These produce the extra energy plants need!

Now you can have it all and be in control. Choose the most advantageous spectrum for your plants!

(B) Extraordinary light output that’smagnified with mirror-like reflectors. This fixture has a complete reflective hood. It captures every last lumen of light and showers them down on your plants. You may note the high quality end reflectors that are slanted to direct light down . These end reflectors are missing on standard T5 fixtures. As a consequence, light flies right out the open ends of competitive designs and misses the plants. Our slanted mirror like end reflectors are also superior to fixtures with box ends. Box ended lights trap light. Our end reflectors capture light coming off the bulbs from all angles and direct it down where it can do the most good.

Commercial Grade Electronic Ballast for Reliable Operation!

People often complain that the shop lights they buy in stores don't last. They don't like starting in damp or cool basements either. Such shop lights are often bulb eating machines too. Often they use cheap one transistor ballasts that destroy the bulbs due to poor current control. On the other hand, our preheat electronic ballast ensures full bulb life and the ballast’s manufacturer warranties the ballast for 5 years!

Maximum Bulb Life with Program Start Ballast. Save Cash on Bulbs!

We use the programmed starting to enhance lamp life. The most common and cheapest way to start fluorescent bulbs is to short the pins of the bulb ends together and impress 600 volts across the tube to cold start it. It is well known in the industry this cold starting is absolutely devastating to bulb life. After all, these T5 bulbs have two pins on each end for a reason. If they were intended to be started with the two pins shorted together, then a T5 bulb would just have one pin on each end, not two.

Our electronic ballast gently preheats the filaments at the ends of the tubes. It then soft starts the lamp using a reduced voltage, about 300 volts.

Quality Workmanship

It is factory new. It includes a 120 volt power cord. The commericial grade electronic ballast carries a 5 year free replacement warranty from the manufacturer.

The hi-tech mirror like reflector is constructed of lighting grade high reflectivity anodized aluminum. This boosts light output and it is specular. This means it can be formed to direct light straight down. The computerized ray tracing results of the reflector are outstanding. You need to be careful using this material. Misapplication will cause the light to scatter to the side of the fixture, worse than if you had used a white reflector. Butthis is much better than a white reflector. Thesurface of a standard white reflector randomly scatters the light. These are ok for a shop, but can't deliver the ultra high light levels for growing. Also it CAN'T RUST .

For shipping purposes it has a protective plastic film on it. We also roll the long edges over so you don't cut yourself.

Choice of Bulbs

Normally this fixture comes with 16 bulbs-- Eight are "red" bloom/germination bulbs, and eight are Daylight "blue" grow bulbs. But we will list this fixture other ways. You can get 5000K full spectrum bulbs for this fixture. And you can also just get 6500K bulbs for aquarium use. We will also sell this fixture without bulbs.

When is 5 minus 3 more than 2?

If you are looking at a fixture with only a 3 year ballast warranty, it’s sure to be an inferior import! That’s why we use 5 year warranty ballasts from US manufacturers. Here in the United States, the standard industry warranty is 5 years. US standards are simply higher.

When electronic ballasts became popular in 1992, they were junk. I remember them literally burning out as fast as you could put them in. The joke was that these new ballasts don’t even last as long as the tubes. But US companies learned their lesson. The new designs have been thoroughly debugged.

So having been burned so many times, I am pretty skeptical of when new, foreign companies come along offering electronic ballasts or fixtures. I certainly don’t want to fly to Zongshan Zhejiang or Jing Jong to file a warranty claim either.

Now it’s not that Red China can’t make good ballasts. They can. But the 2 or 3 year warranty ballasts I’ve seen have always been second class-- they simply don’t last when run 12 or more hours per day, day after day. They are best suited for intermittent, residential use. A guy only occasionally turning on a garage light is not likely to burn the ballast out within the warranty period. If you use these shop lights as grow lights on constantly, they just don’t hold up!
