Marantz ~ Model One Audio ConsoletteVintage tube pre-amp with breakout Power SupplyThis was purchased new by a family member, obviously, many years ago. he was an audiophile and took very good care of his stereo equipment and has not changed any hands outside of this family. I\'m not 100% certain, but it\'s possible this was a kit and my family member built it himself. I think some of these were kits. Regardless, it appears to have been constructed properly. I know that the former owner purchased and used only high-end equipment. He was also technically adept, so it is possible he built this using Marantz\'s parts and specs.I almost decided to keep this because the audio I ran through it sounded incredible. It has a very smooth low end warmth that sounds phenomenal. Sounded natural and super deep. Kind of like the most amazing EQ setting you could ask for. I felt the high and low cut filtering was quite subtle, but nice to have these settings to suit your taste.Condition / Info:Here\'s what I know and can tell you about this item:1. Power supply works and provided power to the pre-amp.
2. The power supply has 3 plugs for other equipment and they all worked when I plugged in a receiver into each of them.
3. The power light on the front lights up in a faint bluish green color (I think - it was hard to tell what color, but it lit up).
4. I tested every single input and all passed audio out.
5. There is moderate amounts of oxidation and/or rust visible throughout the exterior of unit, on the knobs, and audio connections, etc. that may need to be addressed by the buyer.
6. The owner marked spots where he liked the knobs set at by marking a little red dot (see photos).
7. There is some noisy pots when adjusting the volume, tones, and selecting inputs. Easy fix.
8. All knobs turn fine EXCEPT the Cutoff Filter knob.
9. The Cutoff Filter knob is stuck and does not appear to want to move. Not sure if this is a minor or major problem. Likely an easy fix, but no guarantee.
10. The tone knobs work fine and sound gorgeous.
11. I do not see any serial number anywhere on the unit or PS. Maybe the first one!?
12. owner marked in and out with handwritten info on tape (see photos). Removing tape may result in old residue (minor issue).
13. The internal is surprisingly VERY clean! No sign of leaky caps, or any electronic issue that I can see. Some solder points look as if the work was done recently.
14. Not sure if this is significant, but the unit I am selling has 4 of the large silver cylindrical parts, which I think are large caps... not sure...? The others I have seen for sale here on in the past only have 3 of these. See the last photo in my listing. Rare!?
15. There is a company that services these. They have a listing on for their cleaning and repair services.
16. There is a little paint chip between the Selector and Volume knobs.
17. This is Saul Marantz\'s first audio product! Unique!
18. I can\'t verify this, but I was told that the owner of this unit had, at one time very early on near the birth of this unit, exchanged letters with Saul Marantz. Again, I have no letters, nor can verify this in any way, but this sounds like something he would have done or attempted to do.NOTES:If there is anything you want me to check for you, please don\'t hesitate to contact me and I will do what I can. I assume the tubes are all fine since I am hearing audio through the unit. If you want mint, perfect, out-of-the-box usability then this is NOT for you. If you are looking for one of these and have the time and funds to clean and refurbish it a bit, then this is for you.Bottom line is, this is a wonderful pre-amp for any audiophile, however, this unit will probably need a good cleaning and refurbishing with some minor repairs (to the cutoff filter knob at a minimum). It would likely be a good long term investment. Important:
