Upfor sale is a McIntosh MA230 tube amplifier in perfect working condition andgood cosmetic condition. This model is ahybrid unit with a solid-state pre-amp section and a fully tube power amp. The amp has been recently serviced with newcaps and 7591 output tubes. The 12AU7 AND 12AX7 tubes areoriginal.
Overall,the amp is in very nice condition. Thechrome is excellent with minor scratches on it, which is consistent with an ampthis age. Pleaselook at the photos close to note the cosmetic blemishes as seen in thephotos. The power cable has beenreplaced with a more robust balanced cable.The front glass panel has been replaced.The panel was cracked when I received the unit from an seller over 5years ago. The replacement glass was a tad bigger thanthe original so the right side-bracket doesn’t quite fit any more. (See picture). I will include the bracket with the amp. One other note: The balance potentiometer has an odd taper so that the center position doesn\'t exactly happen at the 12:00 position. It\'s more like the 9:30 - 10:00 position. This is easily fixed by a technician and doesn\'t effect the sound.
Sonically,the unit sounds wonderful and hasthat absolute magic McIntosh tube mid-range. You will not be disappointed.
I amonly selling this because I recently purchased a Benchmark digital to analogconverter, which works as a pre-amp stage so I no longer need the preampsection. I have “upgraded” to a McIntoshMC-240 tube power amp with a little more wattage.
Although unit is working and soundswonderful, I cannot guarantee or accept returns due to the 50 plus years ofage, as a consequence the unit is guaranteed not to be DOA but issold as is.
Shipping is $50 within Continental US due to the weight of the unit. I will pack and ship the tubes separately sothat they don\'t get damaged from the weight of the amp.
