McKay Dymek DP40 Radio Receiver RF Preselector SCARCE**USE IN HIGH SIGNAL AREAS:
$349.95

This sale is for a very scarce eight band McKay DP40 preselector designed to be an accessory for the McKay Dymek line of radios manufactured in the 1980s, but can also be used virtually universally with any receiver requiring some front end attenuation of signals to prevent overloading of the radio\'s circuits. It\'s range is from 0 - 30 MHz within the eight bands, but also has a wideband bypass if you prefer to have the unit connected, but do not require the use of the preselector for a specific signal.

This DP40 appears only on occasion and I have only ever seen a couple of them offered for sale here on . I have sold about a dozen of the McKay Dymek console radios, but this is only the third preselector that has ever passed through my hands. It is so scarce, that there is very little information listed about it if you scour the internet. McKay Dymek sold this preselector in the late 70\'s and early 80\'s for $185 which would translate to about $535 if you could purchase it new today.

The preselector is in good overall condition cosmetically, but it is not perfect. There are some signs of age and use as noted with some scratches and marks on the black cover. These marks have been partially disguised using a black enamel pen, but you can still see evidence upon close inspection. I ask you to look at my pictures to see specifics regarding cosmetics. The unit has been tested to verify operation and works fine. I live in a low signal rural area and so this device is not necessary for me. However, someone living in an urban area or located near a powerful transmitter will find this DP40 to be a lifesaver.

What is the value of the preselector? Well, in heavy signal areas where you may have either a couple of strong nearby transmitter or a saturation of signals as found in an urban area, you will find that many receivers will overload and the signals will appear all over the band as images. This can happen with other receivers, and in fact, the DP40 can be adapted to use with many other receivers that need some assistance to combat powerful signals. It is not a silver bullet and if the power of your nearby station(s) is too enormous, even this preselector may fail to keep out all of the unwanted signals though in a worst case scenario it should improve reception enormously.

The preselector enables the receiver to hear intended signals in the receiving range, but to protect the unintended signals from overwhelming the radios circuits. In other words, the preselector acts like a wall or barrier to prevent such signals from creating problems in the receiver. You merely note the portion of the frequency band that you are receiving and then select the proper band on the DP40. You then move the tuning dial to peak the signal. Since you need to tune the preselector along with the receiver, bypassing it (wideband) when it is not necessary simplifies tuning.

The DP40 will work with an RCA plug input or you can connect an adaptor to utilize a standard PL-259 coax connector.

Included in this transaction are the DP40 preselector, a copy of the sale flyer, and a copy of an advertisement as secured from a 1980 issue of World Radio and Television Handbook (WRTH). This DP40 is passive so it does not require any power supply.
