This gorgeous medium sized coal scuttle is made from solid copper and solid brass (pictured #1, #2,#3 & #4). The scuttle itself is solid copper and the \"U\" handle on top is hollow core solidbrass, there arelion\'s heads are on either side of thescuttlewhere the handles joins the scuttle, the wire brackets that form a lifting handle are solid brass,and the skirted base is solid brass too.

Between the wire brackets that form the lifting handle is a piece of blue & white delft ceramic ware mostly done in the Netherlands made from clay in the Netherlands and fired in a kiln there too (pictured #5). A coalscuttle was and sometimes still is used for transporting embers or hot coals from one fireplace to the next in large households where there are multiple fireplaces. The embers or coals are used to start fires in other places.

This beautiful scuttle measures 13 1/2\" tall X 4 1/2\" deep X 5 1/2\" wide, and it is in superb condition for its age. This item would do well on the hearth of your fireplace, in a built in bookshelf as an accent piece, as a small floor vase for your favorite branches or dried flowersor even on the outdoor patio as an outdoor accent.
