This listing is for an authentic vintage sample of antique barbed wire fencing. This wire features a John C. Merrill & Luther Merrill patent, dated September 29, 1874. This wire is called Merrill\'s Early Four Point Barbon One of Two Lines - Black Finish\"by collectors. (ref. Hagemeier 579-B VARIATION)(Hagemeier shows this wire but does not show black and galvanized variations). This wire features two twisted together round line wires. Barbs are four pointed, made from two round barbing wires. Barbing wires are wrapped together, in parallel fashion, around one line wire; and line wires are then twisted together. Lines and wires are not galvanized or are black. Wire sample isa minimum of 18\" in length. It shows age and use wear withmoderate pitting. There aresix barbs, well spaced, and cut is well centered. Thereis some bending of points, but no broken or missing points. Wire isingood used condition. .
