Up for sale today is a Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber. The sword is in good condition, the blade is clean and bright with only a little aging toward the hilt, and hasno nicks. The hilt is tight and the brass guard and pommel have a nice patina. The grip retains all of its brass wire binding and about 70% of its original leather. The blade (riccaso) bares no maker'smarks. The sword is probably a German import for the American Civil War. The scabbard fits very well and is in good condition. A good sword for your collection or for use in the upcoming Civil War sesquicentenial.
