The Montgomery Ward Escort 55 wasbuilt by the Olivetti Company in Spain in the early 1970’s. I found some information on it on a couple ofdifferent typewriter websites. Both saidsimilar things:
Snappy and stablelike most Olivetti typewriters, the Montgomery Ward Escort 55 is a successstory of aesthetics and engineering. The latter is due to the fact that it\'sactually a Lettera 32 with a new plastic body. Unlike other plastictypewriters, the Escort 55 is not rattly at all; it\'s a surprisingly solidtyper. What\'s more, it\'s got sleek mod lines matched by a fetching yellowcolor.
We found this oneat an estate sale. I tried typing onit and everything is in good working condition – however – it does need a newribbon. It doesn’t look like it was usedvery much and shows only minor wear.
The case isplastic and has a few small rips at the corners but overall it will do a goodjob of storing your typewriter for you.
Overall, a verycool, retro piece for display or use.
