We Welcome You to \"Like\" Us on Facebook and Follow Us on Instagram at \"Old Patriot Militaria.\" Thank You!!!
This sale is for the ORIGINAL World War One US 42nd \"Rainbow\" Division, 330th Field Artillery Tunic of Captain Guy Nash of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. A comparison of the Handwriting on Some of the Documents in the Research shows that the Tunic is Named to Captain Nash in His Own Handwriting. This sale also includes his Sam Browne Belt, Dog Tags, Whistle and 16 Pages of Research that Includes Copies of Original Documents as well as Information on the history of the Grouping itself. We were unable to find an exact date of when Captain Nash entered the US Army, but were able to find that he served in the 330th Field Artillery as a Regimental Adjutant during the war, before transferring to the 151st Field Artillery in December of 1918. He is listed in the book, \"History of the 151st Field Artillery, Rainbow Division\" in it\'s list of Officer\'s and there is also a brief biography of him in the book as well. The book can be found in it\'s complete form digitally online. Both the Tunic and the Sam Browne Belt remain in GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION with the Dog Tags and Whistle Remaining in Very Good to Excellent Condition. This grouping includes information that shows it was once part of a much larger collection of Captain Nash\'s items that were once part of the much larger collection of a very advanced collector. The name of the collection is on the list as well as the items we have included here. Unfortunately, Captain Nash\'s collection was broken up with the estate sale of the collector whose name appears on the list. These are the only items from Captain Nash that we are in possession of. Overall, the is a very impressive grouping of items that is very well documented. We believe the group to be Museum Quality and that it could easily be Considered suitable for an Advanced Collector.1. WWI US 42nd Division Tunic Named to Captain Guy Nash - GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - Tunic is CLEARLY Named to \"Guy Nash\" to the Interior Tag of the Inside Pocket and is Dated 9 August 1917, Making This Tunic OVER 100 YEARS OLD. The tunic remains VERY solid but shows minor signs of age, wear and use. It does not appear to have been worn very much in service but shows long term storage wear. There is NO Readily Apparent Soiling, Staining, Streaking or Fading and the Tunic Maintains Very Good Color. There is some light to moderate scattered mothing, none of which is readily apparent except for the Mothing Around and to the Rainbow Patch / SSI that is Visible in the Photos Above. There is also a pencil point size moth nip to the upper left chest that is visible in the closeup of the collar. To the Left Shoulder the Tunic Maintains a GOOD CONDITION, Large 42nd Division Applied Wool Rainbow Patch / SSI. The Patch Maintains BEAUTIFUL, Bright Color with NO Soiling, Staining or Fading. However, there is visible mothing to the patch and at the top edge of the patch causing approximately one inch of the patch to be separated from the tunic. This is Visible in the Photos Above. The left sleeve, near the cuff bears a Single Gold Overseas Service Chevron that remains in Good Condition as well and is firmly attached. The Collar Maintains it\'s Original, VERY GOOD CONDITION Bronze \"USNA\" and 330th Field Artillery Officer\'s Collar Insignia. This is Some of the MOST Impressive, High Quality and Beautiful WWI Officer\'s Collar Insignia we Have Seen in a Long Time! They show minor age and wear but no damage to the pins, clasp or facings. Both Shoulder\'s Maintain their Original \"Coffin Lid\" Style Captain\'s Rank Insignia. The insignia show age, use and wear to the finish as can be seen in the photos. They remain in Overall Good Condition with the pins and clasps showing no apparent damage. BOTH the Rank and Collar Insignia do Not Appear to have Ever Been Removed from the Tunic since the War. All buttons remain firmly in place and are all in Very Good Condition. The Interior of the Tunic shows Minor Signs of Age and Wear in the form of minor separations where the sleeve linings meet the torso and a very small wear hole, approximately the size of a dime, to the lower back of the liner. The Tailor\'s Tag Remains Firmly attached to the Inside of the Interior Pocket and Can be Seen in the Photos Above. The tunic is a Nice Size and Fits Easily on a Size 38 Mannequin Torso. The MEASUREMENTS Are: CHEST = 19 1/2 Measured from Armpit to Armpit, Across the Chest when Buttoned and Laying Flat; BACK = 15 3/4 Inches from Shoulder Seam to Shoulder Seam Measured Across the Upper Back, Just Below the Collar; SLEEVES = 23 3/4 Inches from Top Shoulder Seam to Cuff. 2. WWI US Army Officer\'s Sam Browne Belt - GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION - Belt remains VERY solid and shows minor signs of age, wear and use but NO damage to any of the leather or stitching. It is a bit dry with some minor cracking and has taken on a dusty appearance and could use cleaning. ALL leather remains VERY flexible with NO overly dry or dark spots. NO rot or flaking to any of the leather. All Brass Portions remain in Place and in VERY Good Condition as well. However, there is green verdigris starting to form where the brass meets the leather in a number of places and it could use to be cleaned. The verdigris cleans off quite easily. Overall, a very nice belt in much better than average condition. 3. Captain Guy Nash\'s Set of WWI Identification / \"Dog\" Tags - EXCELLENT CONDITION - Tags remain on their Original, Excellent Condition Chain and show NO Corrosion or Damage of Any Sort. All information to the tags remains VERY Clear and Very Easy to Read. 4. Captain Guy Nash\'s Trench Whistle - VERY GOOD to EXCELLENT CONDITION - Very nice, heavy duty solid brass whistle that remains on it\'s original heavy, hooked end chain. Whistle shows some discoloration where the lips would touch the end on one side and all maker\'s markings to the whistle remain clearly visible. 5. Sixteen Pages of Research Regarding Captain Nash, His Service and the Grouping. This research gives a considerable amount of information regarding Captain Nash and His Service in the 330th and 151st Field Artillery units, but more could certainly be found. It consists of a number of pages of copies of original documents and pages printed from the history of the 151st. Captain Nash graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1897 and was Appointed Post Master of Shanagolden, Ashland, Wisconsin in 1904. As previously stated, there is also a folded page of information regarding the previous collection these items were a part of and what Captain Nash\'s Collection once consisted of. All the information you receive does a very good job of documenting the grouping and also provides you with more than enough information to research it further if you so choose. Overall, this is a VERY impressive grouping that Displays Extremely Well. We are very confident that you be very pleased with these items when you see them and proud to add them to your collection.
