Normandy 4, Bb Wooden ClarinetStep-up/Intermediate level instrument
We\'re saleing a very distinctive-sounding wooden clarinet. Most school band clarinets are some kind of plastic or resin - this is wood and you can tell just by the sound. We bought this clarinet used in 1996 from a former UIL award-winning player who had just graduated from high school - he played it for about 5 years, but I\'m not sure if it was new when he acquired it or not - we had no idea what we were buying at the time. My daughter played it until she graduated high school in 2003. It was last re-corked and re-padded in 2003.
This horn is in very good condition and has been kept in the case for the last ten years, only coming out on the rare occasion to be looked over, or played for a few minutes when my daughter visits (she\'s grown). There\'s a stash of reeds included in the case.
This would make a great student instrument - the problem with a lot of student instruments is that they sound a little off, and this can be discouraging to a new learner. This horn has a great tone and when you get a part \"right\" you can tell. For high school players, it\'s a step up from the usual \"step-up\" clarinet. If your band director happens to use blind auditions for chair tests, this clarinet will make an impression just by virtue of its tone. (been there, done that). Overall, a Normandy 4 is better than your average \"good\" clarinet.
