Up for sale i have a antique Norwegian Os style Rosemaled trunk dated 1864 and with the name of the owner painted on the front Torgels Olsen Haus. This is a museum quality piece and it was painted by Annanias Tveit (Midthus)1847-1924 who was the son of the famous RosemalerNils Midthus who moved to the farm Midthus in Os outside the city ofBergen in 1820 and he changed his last name from Tveit to Midthus. He had 11 sons and Annanias Tveit was the only one who became a Rosemaler and he is considered to be the Rosemaler who brougth the Os style Rosemaling to a next level. The quality of the floral patterns are just amazing and thecolors are as vibrant today as when it was painted in 1864. Tveit was fully trained as a Rosemaler when he was 18 years old and he painted this trunk when he was 17 years old. It is just a stunning piece and it would be the star in almost any Collections of Os style rosemaled trunks.This i a 100% original painted trunk With no repairs or touch ups, have shown this to one of norways leading experts and he agrees.It is in very good condition, it has some old wormholes, that all trunks from this area has(no live ones) and some ligth wear to the top. The metalwork is really nice with intricate patterns in the metal on the front and it has a fantastic key that is a piece of folk art on its own, fully functional lock and key. Measures 44.5\" wide, 21\" deep and 21\" tall. Would be a great addition to a Collection of Norwegian, Swedish or Danish folk art items.
