– Cuckoo Clock Poppo Tezuka Clock Co.
Here for your consideration
we have a Poppo Cuckoo Clock by the Tezuka Clock Company with a wooden Cuckoo
bird. The clock measures 10 1/2 inches high
by 11 1/4 inches wide by 6 inches deep.
We do not know if the clock works.
The mechanism looks clean and it has very long chains which are in
excellent condition as are the two weights.
The wood top piece is missing the bird ornament. The face reads the word “poppo” inside the
word “CLOCK”, “Tezuka Clock Co., Ltd”, and “MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN”. The mechanism on the back reads “OCCUPIED
“TRADE MARK POPPO”, “MADE IN TOKYO”, and “TEZUKA CLOCK CO. LTD”. The clock is being saleed as-is.
Other key words:
Vintage, Clockworks, WW2, WW
2, WWII, WW II, World War 2, and World War II
Half of all items produced in
Japan after World War II from late 1945 until early 1952 for export to the U.S.
were required to be marked with the words “Occupied Japan”. This law was introduced by Gen. Douglas
MacArthur to help the American people accept imports from the defeated nation
of Japan and to allow the Japanese people to gain a foothold on economic
recovery and re-unification with the west.
Other than the mark there is little evidence to authenticate an item
from the period. Collecting Made in
Occupied Japan (MIOJ) items is a wonderful and fulfilling hobby for young and
old and children of all ages.
