This unit is in perfect working condition. I am the second owner. The heads were re-lapped by the renowned JRF Magnetic Sciences just prior to me buying this machine and have a ton of life left in them. I used it under 10 times total in the 18 months I've owned it, which is why I'm letting it go--this thing needs to get some use! The only thing wrong with it is the bulb in channel 6's VU meter is burned out. Anyone skilled with a soldering iron (I'm not!) can fix that in under 5 minutes. Other than that, this thing is working perfectly!
ALSO included in this sale is everything you need to start recording on tape TODAY:
-4 reels of Quantegy 456 1/2-in tape (2 NEW, 2 used) ($200+ value)
-1 Otari take up reel ($75 value)
-1 BASF Calibration test tape ($75 value)
-2 Dust covers (1 never opened!)
-1 CB-114 Remote control ($100 value)
-1 XLR to RCA snake ($20+ value)
-1 Han-D-Mag for Demagnetizing the heads after every 4-5 hours of use ($50+ value)
-1 ORIGINAL OTARI MANUAL ($40)
-1 Heavy duty original stand ($150 value)
This is the model of machine the guys at Daptone (Amy Winehouse, Sharon Jones) use, as evidenced in this article with owner Gabriel Roth from Sound on Sound Magazine:
"You certainly cannot call up Auto-Tune to fix any clams on a Daptone track. For starters, it's a tape-only proposition, and Roth seems to be moving joyfully backwards in time: the Tascam 16-track deck in the control room increasingly gives way to an Otari MX5050 eight-track half-inch machine…"
