The 1.5 oz. cup is tinted red, made of a flexible plastic with a flip top lid.

The cup will hold oboe and bassoon reeds as shown in the second photo. The reeds are not included with the set, but are pictured to show the dimensions of the cup. The matching clip attaches toMOST black metal or plastic band stands. The durable plastic band is flexible and will not rust. An instruction card is provided with each clip set. The stand clip has a foam strip on the inside of the ring. The colors of this strip will vary from black, to red, blue, or green depending on the colors we currently have in stock.

You will receive one cup and one clip per set.

Please note that although these cups are approximately 70 mm. tall (slightly shorter than the length of most finished oboe reeds) it is advisable not to close the lid with an oboe reed inside, as this can cause damage to the tip. When walking with oboe reeds is best to keep the reed in a reed case to protect the reed from damage. Carrying the reeds in the reed cup with or without water inside is not recommended as the reed can be damaged quite easily.

Each cup has an attached flip top lid that will open when the sides of the cup are squeezed. The lids provide a tight seal. (I have not experienced any problems with the lids leaking when water is inside the cups. However, results may vary, and the lids may leak over time from regular use. It is advisable to remove water from the cup when storing or carrying the cups when reeds are not soaking in the cup.) Theheight of the cup is slightly shorter than most finished oboe reeds. Thus, the reeds will not fit in the cup with the lid closed. It is advisable not to close the lid with the reed inside as this could cause damage to the tip.

This cup and clip set is designed to soak oboe reeds in the cup during ensemble rehearsals and performances with the cup resting securely in the clip band which is attached to the pole of a music stand. While the reeds can be soaked in the cup alone, placing the cup on music stands or on the floor leave the cup vulnerable to spilling, and damage to the reeds. The stand clip comes in handy to protect the reed cup from spilling.

The reeds should be placed in the cup in the clip band during rehearsals and performances. It is advisable to soak oboe reeds for 2 to 4 minutes. Over soaking the reeds is not advisable, as it can affect the quality and response of the oboe reeds and shorten the lifespan of the reed. It is advisable to soak only the reeds that will be used in the rehearsal or performance, since placing oversoaked reeds in a reed case can cause the reeds to mold. Be sure reeds are dry before placing them in a reed case.
