Here is an authentic Mathias Thir violin. The violin has been authenticated through previous owners and confirmed at a local violin shop. The tag shows Mathias Thir-fecit Viennae; Anno 1775 as pictured. Thir is known for his violins with incredible tone and sound qualities. It has has a very long history of being played and repaired. It was used professionally, recorded use with the St Louis Symphony Orchestra back in the 1930\'s and 1940\'s. There is an interesting star shaped mark carved into the back of the scroll. The bridge is marked with the name Giovanni Longiaru. He was born in 1886, Piere di Cadore, Italy and known for being a repairer to the Conservatoire in Venice. There are repair tags on the inside. One is marked repaired by Frank Gray, St Louis Mo. Gray worked from 1860-1905 in St Louis Missouri, mostly as a repairer. There is a handwritten name on the tag. Looks like Chas H Chenot, or Chanot, 1879. There is also another name on the inside, Carroll Fulk, Brownstone, Ill, Dec, 29 1992. There have been many repairs that are evident through the years. The top and back of the violin are solid. The neck near the button area has loosened and it will need to be fixed/reset. It will need to work of a professional restorer to get it back to playing shape. It had been set up and playing before the neck issue. It comes with an old Bobelock Los Angeles hardshell case. The chinrest, tailpiece, endpin, and some strings are included. This is a very rare violin with a long history of being professionally played. It is not one of the many copies that can be found here on . Restored, this violin will be very valuable. Please ask any questions if you have them!
